# Columns with your own formulas

Add a column you define to Watchlists, the Screener or Portfolio Positions: a name and a formula over the table's fields, such as market cap divided by P/E.

## What it is

A formula column is a column you define yourself in Watchlists, the Screener or Portfolio Positions: a name and a formula over the fields the table reads, such as market cap divided by the P/E ratio. Every row shows the result for its own figures.

Reach for one when the figure you compare by has no column of its own, such as earnings worked out from market cap and P/E, or where a price sits between its 52-week low and high.

Edge knows what each field measures, such as a price, money or a percentage, and refuses a formula whose units do not fit together, such as a price plus a market cap, as you type it.

## How to use it

1. In a Watchlists widget at least three tiles wide, open the three-dot menu at the top right and choose **Columns…**.

2. Scroll to **Your columns** at the bottom of the panel and choose **New column**.

3. Type a name, then the formula. It joins fields with + − × ÷ and brackets, and can use plain numbers and abs, min and max. Fields go by short names, such as marketCap and peRatio: **Insert a field…** lists them beside their labels and adds the one you pick to the end of the formula.

4. Under the formula, the form shows the unit the result reads as, such as “Unit: Money”, or why the formula cannot be used, such as “These units do not add up: Price + Money.” **Add column** stays off until the column has a name and a formula that holds.

5. Press **Add column**. The column joins the table after the others, and the panel lists it under **Active columns**, where you can drag it to another place.

6. Click the column's header to sort by it: lowest first, then highest first, then back to the list's own order. A row without a value, such as a cryptocurrency with no P/E ratio, shows a dash and stays at the bottom.

7. Under **Your columns**, untick a column to hide it and tick it to show it again. The bin beside it deletes it.

8. The Screener and Portfolio Positions have the same **Your columns** section. In the Screener, **Columns** is the grid icon at the top of the widget, or in its three-dot menu when the widget is narrow. In Portfolio Positions, **Columns…** is in the three-dot menu, under Options, while the widget lists positions.

## Good to know

- Each table offers its own fields: in Watchlists and the Screener, the instrument's prices and market data, such as P/E, margins and growth; in Portfolio Positions, the position's units, current rate, P&L and fees, and a few market figures such as market cap.
- A percentage scales what it multiplies: “dividendYield \* price” is that share of the price, and reads as a price. A share worked out by dividing, such as “price / week52High”, reads as a ratio: 0.85, not 85%.
- Your columns are saved with the widget you define them in, in your layout, and stay whatever list it shows. Another widget does not have them.
- A widget holds up to 20 of your columns. At 20, **New column** is gone until you delete one.
- In the Screener, your column shows on every row but does not sort: the Screener ranks a screen by its own columns. A preset or a saved screen leaves your columns in place.
- In a Watchlists widget's menu, **Edit with Tori** can add one: ask, for example, “Add a column named Earnings that divides market cap by P/E ratio, and sort by it largest first.” The column appears at once, with **Undo** beside the change.

Screens are from a Demo account. The instruments and prices in them are illustrative.
