Outside regular hours, Edge names the session a US stock is trading in: pre-market, after hours or overnight. See it in the Order Ticket, on the chart and in Market Hours.

## What it is

US stocks trade outside the regular session too: before the open, after the close, and through the night on their 24/5 line. Edge now names the session a US stock is in, wherever you look at it: **Pre-market**, **After hours** or **Overnight**.

A price quoted at night is not the regular session's close. Knowing which session a price comes from tells you what you are looking at.

During regular hours nothing is added. No label means the regular session.

## How to use it

1. Open **Market Hours** from the market pill at the bottom right of Edge and choose the US row. It shows whether the market is open, the regular session's opening and closing times, and when **Pre-market**, **After hours** and **Overnight** run.

2. In the Order Ticket, look under the Bid and Ask prices. Outside regular hours the session is named there, with the regular session's **At close** price beside the live one.

3. For a stock that trades around the clock, the **Trading Session** row of the ticket switches between **Market hours** and **24/5**.

4. On a chart with an interval of one hour or less, a light tint sits behind the candles traded outside regular hours, a little stronger for the night. **Overlays**, in the chart's toolbar, has **Extended hours** to turn it off.

5. In a watchlist or in Portfolio Positions, open the widget's menu, choose **Columns…** and add **Session** to see the session on every row. During regular hours the column says that the market is open, or closed.

## Good to know

- Regular hours normally run from 09:30 to 16:00 New York time. Pre-market runs from 04:00 to 09:30, after hours normally from 16:00 to 20:00, and overnight from 20:00 to 04:00.
- These sessions run on a stock's 24/5 line. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 stocks have one, from Sunday evening to Friday's close in New York: Market Hours gives the exact times.
- For a US trading account, the night shows as **Closed**.
- Market Hours also lists the other markets with their opening hours, in your own time zone.
